Exhibition Dinner and Dialogue: The History of African American Cuisine

Urevbu Contemporary 9 October 2021
Urevbu Contemporary 7-9p,

Urevbu Contemporary returns with its ever popular dinner and dialogue series.

We find commonality by using things we all enjoy - good conversation, delicious food, great music and stunning artwork. The exhibition "Dinner and Dialogue" experience is a period of conversation to illuminate matters of common concern, and bring understanding and acceptance of ideas commonly causing divergence. By curating these innovative exhibitions and experiences, the gallery aims to inspire an appreciation for diversity and culture.

How do we accomplish it?

The evening pairs both visual and culinary art from around the globe over intimate and thought provoking discussion on important topics.

The curated cuisine for our upcoming session will be prepared by Atlanta-based chef and culinary artist, Maurietta Amos. Chef Amos will prepare a delicious five course dinner that explores, celebrates and highlights African American contributions to food and culture. Wine pairings will also be served.

"All of the ingredients reflect modern variations of the foods I ate growing up. I'll also discuss the re-invention of classic African American ingredients in modern times (health, flavor and cooking techniques). Every course will have a personal story!" - Chef Amos

Chef Amos has traveled extensively in the United States and abroad to bring the best the world has to offer into the kitchen. We are thrilled to welcome her to Memphis!
